I am an 18 year old musician and have been learning since the age of 7. I have achieved Grade 8 with distinction in piano, clarinet & cello. Having just left college I am now offering instrumental lessons for clarinet and cello as well as theory for ABRSM and GCSE students.
I took my GCSE & A Level music exams two years early and got A* for both. I go to Junior Trinity in London every Saturday where I am continuing my music education until I hopefully go to Uni!
I have helped GCSE students and some AS & A Level students wit their music theory. I can also coach students for the performance & composition elements of GCSE & A Level. I can also support ABRSM students up to Grade 5 standard.
I have accompanied several students in their practical music exams and again for their GCSE & A Level performance modules.
finally I have taught my Dad the saxophone (very similar to clarinet) - even he thinks I'm a patient teacher!
I know from learning instruments myself that students need to find music that they really enjoy playing. In the early stages, I encourage students to play music that early appeals to them - I always enjoyed film & TV music when I was first learning. Once the love of music is there and the initial technique is learned I will encourage good practice techniques and regular scales etc. I think it's really important that a student should progress at a rate that works for them, rather than rushing them through the grades. That way they will not only learn and embed the learning, but they will enjoy it too, which is so important.
