I am a UK based, outstanding KS1 and KS2 fully qualified primary-trained teacher, who also has experience of teaching in KS3, primarily in maths and English. I have taught in years 1,3, 4, 5 and 6, with a proven track record of delivering accelerated progress across all subjects in the primary phase. I have 10 years of experience in English primary classrooms. I am an experienced KS2 and KS3 SATs marker, having marked for the SATs exam board, Pearson Edexcel, for the past 9 years. I have a Masters in Teaching from the Institute of Education (IOE), which is widely regarded as the best university in the world for education and teacher training.
I am currently a Deputy Headteacher in a school in east London, also teaching Year 6 SATs groups, but have also worked in years 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. I have 11 years of tutoring experience. I have worked with a wide variety of children, including those with English as an additional language, those with special educational needs and Gifted and Talented children. I understand that children can be left behind due to any number of issues in class, and a lot of my work involves boosting such children to the level expected for their year group. Equally, I am well-versed in how to make sure those more and most able pupils achieve their academic potential. My approach is to build their confidence in their learning through positive relationships, praise and upbeat, enjoyable sessions.
In my work with the most able,I have facilitated accelerated progress across all subject areas, enabling pupils to gain entrance to selective private and grammar schools. I have tutored pupils across all elements of the tests and have had great success in this area, with many of my students gaining entry to Latymer in the previous academic year.
I am also a marker for Pearson Edexcel (the exam board that administers the KS2 SATs) and have marked the national Year 6 SATs tests for English for 9 years. This has enabled me to gain a full and thorough understanding of what is required to succeed in the exams and I have found this experience invaluable in my role as a teacher and tutor.
I believe that learning should be engaging and interactive and that children should make accelerated progress even within a one hour lesson. I have developed a range of teaching styles and techniques to cater for a wide variety of pupils to ensure that consistent progress is made. I am happy to teach in one, two or three hour slots, splitting sessions with 50% English and 50% Maths work. Weekends and weekday evenings are both possible, depending on current pupils.
