This is how 4 referees rated Kerry:
I completed a masters degree in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham before moving to the sunny North East to start a graduate job in the chemical industry. Alongside my degree I have also obtained A levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Physics. I am very keen to share my enthusiasm for the STEM subjects, I get a lot of enjoyment from helping others to reach their potential in these subjects. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, pilates, music and visiting family/friends.
I first began tutoring Chemistry at A level standard last year and have received great feedback from my tutees. It was brilliant to see their improvement over time and rewarding to know that I helped them to reach their goals. At University I took on a mentoring role which enabled me to engage with younger students and support them with their studies. I take part in a number of community programmes at work which involves visiting local school's to deliver chemistry lessons targeted at working in industry. I have also had observational experience in secondary and sixth form science classes.
I believe that the key to learning is understanding. So many times in the past I have read something over and over again which hasn't sunk in, and all it took was that one person to explain it in a different way to get it to click in my head. I hope to be able to do the same for others. Instead of getting students to learn something in parrot fashion, I will ensure that the key understanding is there, usually leading by example. I would encourage students to engage and let me know what they are struggling with to ensure that we can focus on the right areas.
