I have a real passion for working with children, to help them not only achieve their full potential, but to enjoy life at the same time.
Exam results are important, but they're not the be all and end-all!
My philosophy is about doing, and achieving, your best... not necessarily about being the best.
Education should be about more than academic results... it has to be about creating a rounded young person, who excels in their strongest areas, but has the capacity to improve in all areas of life, not just academic subjects.
I started life as a maths teacher in Kent and was quickly promoted to head of lower school maths.
I then left teaching and worked in IT for a number of years as an Analyst Programmer for companies such as British Gas, TNT, Glaxo and Cadbury's.
After that a spent a few years designing websites in my own business, before returning to teaching for just short of a decade.
I have over 12 years experience teaching maths in secondary schools in the UK.
Eight years of that was in one of the top Maths Faculties in the UK (including 5 Years as Head of KS3 Maths). In may last 2 years there, we achieved a top 5 place in the UK for levels of progress achieved by our students... not all down to me, of course, but I was part of a very strong team.
I'm also a qualified Life Coach, specialising in motivating students and helping then deal with personal issues, and am currently coaching on schools with students on a 1-to-1 basis.
My aim is to provide a safe environment for your child to explore and extend their abilities in maths.
As an experienced maths teacher, I know when children need to be gently encouraged to build their confidence and when they need to be stretched to reach their full potential.
For many children, lack of confidence is the main barrier to success. That often leads to a loss of motivation… and so the vicious circle begins!
By working on motivation and confidence in conjunction with building on your child’s current skills, I’ll empower them to take on maths like never before!
Whatever your child’s ability in maths…
I’ll help them enjoy it more than they do now
Improve their understanding and ability
Grow in confidence
Achieve realistic (but challenging!) targets
Become a problem solver
