Hi my name is Kaye, (Kathleen officially). I have a B.A.(Hons) 2.1 in Joint Humanities (English and History) from De Montfort University in Leicester. I attained QTS in 2002 and in 2014 I completed a TEFL Masters qualification. I am a friendly, approchable, supportive teacher and always determind to do the best for my students.
The lesson charge listed is for classes held in my home, if I am required to travel to the student's home there will be an extra charge for travelling time. I request that all students give 24 hours notice if lessons have to be cancelled. Any classes not cancelled 24 hours beforehand will have to be charged at the full rate.
I have been teaching since 2001, in a wide variety of school types: comprehensive; Grammar; sixth form college, International School and a language academy. My teaching experience has been very wide, encompassing SEN pupils to the very gifted, and also those for whom English is not their first language. I have extensive experience of teaching/tuoring students in techniques and skills to help gain great or better grades in SATs, GCSE, Cambridge English Language and Essential Skills. I believe that feedback to students and parents/guardians, should always be honest, factual and practical. Teaching within a variety of facilities and situations has facilitated my ability to to differentiate at many levels and to assist targeting particular problem areas.
I am a passionate and committed teacher of English and throughout my career I have striven to provide pupils with with teaching which is appropriate, fun and tailored to their individual needs. It is my opinion that every pupil is important and should be treated as a unqiue individual, with their own learning style. Throughout my career I have tried to encourage my students, to always find the positive in their work and to celebrate their achievements, now matter how small. After careful consideration of my student's work, I prepare detailed lesson plans which provide short, medium and long term targets for us to work to together. Whilst I very actively promote careful planning of written work by students and demonstrate how to do this. I also always encourage students to read more and therefore expand their knowledge of writing styles, vocabulary and overall enjoyment of English.
For those students for whom English is not their first language, I try to create a friendly and relaxed environment, in which they can feel at ease. Each lesson will cover the important formal areas of reading/writing/speaking but also interactive conversataion which will allow the sharing of cultural experiences and, hopefully, enrich the learning experience for both student and teacher.
