Personal Description:

I'm a science teacher in a secondary school. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a research scientist at Durham University. I love science! I think it's amazing to learn how the world works! I'm also a maths convert--having absolutely hated it when I was at school myself, I came to love it once I went to university and realised it's a great tool for understanding the universe.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been a secondary-school teacher for 5 years. I teach Physics at A-level and GCSE, and general science at Key Stage 3. When I was a research scientist, I also did some lecturing in geology at the university level.

I do some extra work as an examiner (marker) for OCR AS Physics, so I have insight into the style and rigour expected in examination answers for that exam board.

Tutoring Approach:

Ultimately, if you're paying for a tutor, you want results. With that in mind, I aim to tailor the learning to target the needs of the student. There's no point in wasting time on things you already know and do well, so let's work together on bolstering your knowledge and skills in the areas where you're less confident so you can get the best possible grade. I personally love science, and I'll try to make tutoring sessions interesting and not too painful! During a tutoring session I would expect lots of active participation from both of us (e.g… questions, talking things over, practicing), rather than a boring lecture or a high-pressure grilling.

At the moment I've got several active tutees, so my availability is limited to students within Saltburn except for people who are willing to travel to my home.
