Personal Description:

I’m a father of three boys to whom I teach maths in my leisure time. I moved to U.K. 15 years ago to pursue higher studies in Actuarial studies.

Currently, I work as an actuarial consultant in the City of London. In my 15 years of professional career, I worked for some of the largest insurance companies in U.K… helping to solve problems using actiarial techniques.

I always had a passion to teach maths. I truly started my teaching career while I was reading mathematics at University of Colombo,Sri Lanka in an informal setting helping my colleagues to understand difficult mathematical concepts.

Since then I have been tutoring and helping students maths and other subjects to a wide range of students.

I would not consider myself as a full time tutor, however I’m planning to spend more time teaching in the future mainly to achieve work-life balance.

I strongly believe that I can provide my service to your expectation.

I have coached students in maths related subjects in the past in addition to my full time professional job.

Thank you.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring maths and statistics, privately, for different levels in the past with probably 20+ students.

After completing my first degree back in 1997 I lectured maths for 1 year in the university as a mathematics demonstrator which is my first formal teaching experience.

Then I worked as a visiting lecturer in one of the institutions, teaching business statistics for CIMA qualification.

Since then I have tutored both 1-1 and group sessions for students from GCSE to University students.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I will spend some time to understand student's level of understanding on basic concepts in mathematical techniques before diving into the details.

Then I’m happy to provide some constructive feedback to both the parents as well as to the student and more importantly how we can address the weaker areas.

I would like to make the sessions more interactive though initially I will play a vital role in explaining the concepts and then to check whether the students got the understanding right.

I will use my professional experience in applying mathematical concepts in real life problems to make students aware of how maths will be used in real world and to make them keen on the subject. This will make the teaching more interactive.

More importantly, I will try my best to make each session enjoyable.
