*UPDATE: I am currently on Maternity leave but looking to start new sessions in September!* I am an ethusiastic and patient 27 year old with a first class degree in Mathematics. I have a full time job in Finance and am looking to tutor students part-time to earn a little extra money but also to keep in touch with teaching. I love teaching and am incredibly confident with it. I understand that everybody learns at a different pace and in a different way and feel that I adapt my teaching very well in order to respond to this. I am happy to teach students of all ages and am happy to to teach more than one student at one time, though I will ask for an additional £10 per hour, just to cover extra preparation costs. Please contact me with any other questions that you may have :).
I was a student ambassador for the University of Portsmouth and have spent countless days in schools.
I have also been on Placement at Southbourne School in Hampshire where I was helping out the Mathematics Department for a few months.Additionally, I have been a Student Mentor for Aimhigher, teaching and supporting 4 GCSE level children in Portsmouth with their GCSE Mathematics. I took part in 'Raising the Grade', a scheme organised by the University to provide assistance and guidance to underachieving GCSE Mathematics students.
I have also tutored 6 students during my degree, all of which achieved B and A grades at GCSE - one of which went from an E grade to a B grade in just a few months!
Too much of mathematics in the classroom focus' on remembering a particular method or way of working. I believe that the key to becoming a successful mathematician is through understanding rather than just remembering. Sometimes this means I have to go back to basics, but it is important for me that my students understand and develop logical skills rather than just a better memory. I know that Mathematics can be a hard and challenging subject and also frustrating for many people, however, I believe that it is possible to teach anybody the skills of mathematics, it just requires time and much patience. I think homework is an important part of teaching and encourage students to enjoy the subject, rather than see it as a chore.

Katy helped in just a few short weeks that we had left before the exam and I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Appears to be really flexible and I'm thrilled with my choice. Let's hope together we can get through GCSE math !!
