Personal Description:

I am a friendly and experienced academic tutor located near Dunbar, East Lothian. I can travel to the areas of: Dunbar, Stanton, Gifford and Garvald.

I have 2 young children who keep me very busy, however as a trained Primary School teacher (Moray House PGDE 2007) I am keen to continue working with children and make a difference to their learning.

Availability wise I try and tutor on a Wednesday or Thursday after school and can teach in your home.

Tutoring Experience:

Update: 2013-2015 I have been a P2 class teacher in Dunbar and also have been a support of learning assistant at an independent school. I continue to work as a supply teacher (primary) in the Local Authority.

I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language if there are small groups who would like to improve their English.

I studied for a PGDE in Primary Education in 2007 at Moray House School of Education and during my studies undertook placements leading a classroom in schools throughout Edinburgh and Arbroath

In addition to tutoring primary aged pupils, I am a confident Common Entrance tutor and know the current curricukum for CE. I am especially familiar with History, English (including creative writing tuition), RS, Geography and French

Prior to having my daughter in February, I had 4 pupils in East Lothian who I worked with on a weekly basis. Recent references from previous clients can be found on this website. I am very keen to work with parents and their children together to ensure that the right areas are being taught, practiced or reinforced. I also try and make my sessions sociable and un-school like, so I use my laptop since online resources can explain things differently or offer an alternative perspective to a topic being covered in our tutoring sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very approachable tutor for both parents and pupils and am keen to ensure that my time with you is used most effectively. I am confident working with all abilities and make sure learning is enjoyable and broken up into chunks if needed.

I have also tutored in exam technique for Higher English, in particular developing strategies for tackling the Close Reading paper. I can do single sessions in the lead up to exams.
