This is how 2 referees rated Katie:
I am a teacher at a Lanarkshire school. I have always loved Biology, even at high school. And it was beacause of my Biology Teacher I decided to persue the course further. I had always wanted to be a teacher so I put the two together and undertook a four year course at the University of Stirling and graduated at summer with a 2.1 Honours degree in biology and science with professional education.
I have been teaching for six years and I have previously been on three teaching placements throughout my university degree in the Lanarkshire area, each getting progressively better. I have also had experience in tutoring groups on my placement. This was done by having an open drop in for fourth year pupils in the run up to their prelims and recapping all the knowledge they had learned so far and also practising past paper questions. This tutor group was well attended with an average of 20 pupils coming each week and leaving the session feeling more relaxed about their exams. I have had experience teaching first year up to advanced higher courses with pupils feeling comfortable to ask me for extra help when it is required.
I have taught up to Advanced Higher Level, with my pupils receiving excellent grades throughout all levels. At my current school we offer higher human biology so i am able to tutor this to any students studying the subject.
I know how scary exam time can be and people start to get more stressed than what they need be. What I would offer to a tutee is some reassurance in the subject. I would go over the theory, practice those always dreaded problem solving questions and even help with homework/course work that you are doing at the current time. I am a nice, kind person who will have the patience to go over something until you understand it completely. I would also be wiling to negotiate a price if you would like to do some group tutoring with friends (no more than 4). The thing is that you will have been taught everything you are studying. It just needs that someone else to help remind you of it and also to explain it on a one to one basis so that you can understand it. I could also offer some new ideas into study techniques and with practice, we can see what works best for you. I would be available to tutor those undertaking national 5 and higher human biology.
