Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Kat, I am 25 years old and I live in the High Wycombe area. I have been very lucky to have had great teachers and tutors through school and university. I would now like to use my skills to guide others through their exams.

I studied French, Spanish, Geography and English A-Levels, then went on to study at Royal Holloway, University of London. My course was made up of modules in French, Spanish and Italian and also included a year abroad. During this time I lived and studied (and tutored!) in Madrid and Lecce.

I am a bright and personable person, who is always looking for the best way to help each individual. My aim is to make the tutoring experience as enjoyable and beneficial as possible!

I have completed an enhanced DBS/CRB check, and I am currently working towards a teaching qualification to improve my skills further. I am also currently learning British Sign Language.

Tutoring Experience:

Rather than writing a big paragraph here, I'm going to do bullet points of my teaching experience. Bit easier on the eye… 2008-2010: During this time I volunteered to tutor younger members of the school during my free lessons and during lunch breaks. This was predominantly French and Spanish classes.

2011-2015: Full-time Multilingual Studies degree. Modules included in-depth understanding of grammar, syntax, cultural issues, literature and arts subjects.

2013: I worked as a classroom teaching assistant as part of the Routes Into Languages scheme. I was placed at a local school where I was tasked with helping student prepare for their GCSE exams.

2013-2014: Whilst on my year abroad I actively promoted my skills as a language learner and taught English to a range of ages and abilities. This included a history professor at my university in Madrid, two sets of siblings (x2 aged 3, x2 aged 5), a number of fellow students studying English as a foreign language at the university, casual adult learners, and my landlord to name but a few!

2015: As part of my work as a student ambassador at Royal Holloway, I worked alongside the Student Outreach Program and the Modern Foreign Languages Department. This involved greeting groups from local skills who had come to experience languages at university and the opportunities this afforded them. I supported my lecturers in their taster lessons, and worked with small groups on the work being set.

2015: Routes Into Languages Ambassador. I have attended workshops and courses which promote the uptake of languages and student mobility. These courses also included teaching techniques, an introduction to interactive tools online which enhance language learning, discussions on health and safety and child protection.

Tutoring Approach:

My classes are interactive, engaging and work to maximise each students' potential. In my own experience, confidence plays a huge part in success, so I always aim to work with the student to enforce their own ability and belief in what they can do.

I am also highly organised and look to set clear, achievable goals so that students can monitor the progress they have made. I put time and consideration into effective and interesting ways to solidify learning.

Above all, I am a good listener, and will always look to work with the student in whichever way will help them get the results they are looking for.
