Personal Description:

I have been described by my students as understanding, empathetic and a good listener. I strive to appreciate the unique traits of every individual and enjoy being creative and philosophical. Having played netball for a number of years, sport and English are my two passions and if you don't find me on a netball court, then I'll probably be reading somewhere. Despite being a relatively young teacher, my style of teaching is described as 'old-school', as I believe in a strong professional nature and one that not only educates students about a subject, but about values and morals that create a well-rounded person.

Tutoring Experience:

I am currently working for a social enterprise company developing pupils' (5-18yrs) core employability skills and offering unique experiences in the working world. This position has followed six years as a secondary English teacher in the Wakefield district, working with KS3, GCSE and A Level English students. I have maintained an outstanding observation record in internal and external (e.g. Ofsted) reviews and have enabled various cohorts of students to attain their target grades in their GCSE Language and Literature examinations.

Previous tutoring experience ranges from working with both primary and secondary students, focusing on fundamental reading and writing skills to enhance their confidence in their English lessons at school.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel tutoring is about personailsed learning: something students often miss out on in a class of 30+ pupils. I aim to develop a good understanding about the specific needs of the tutee and build a professional relationship that enables them to share their concerns and successes. Tutoring is an opportunity to develop a strong line of communication which will allow me to mentor the tutee comprehensively and develop their learning in specific areas so they feel comfortable within school. Equally as importantly, the one-to-one time gives room to be creative and dynamic, offering engaging and unique learning experiences that motive and inspire tutees in the joys of English as a subject. I endeavour to achieve this in abundance.
