I have a First Class Honours degree in English Literature and a Masters with Distinction in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths University of London.
Alongside my work as an academic tutor, I work as a professional writer.
I have ten years experience of tutoring and have worked in schools, colleges and universities in the UK, Africa and America.
I also did a three year course in Theatre Studies at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, now equivalent to a BA Hons degree.
I've worked on all GCSE and A Level syllabuses (OCR, EdExcel, AQA, WJEC) and am up-to-date with recent government changes to syllabus. I have taught all key texts on these syllabus specifications.
I have experience of teaching the English section of entrance exams for top schools, colleges and universities.
For higher level study, I have most frequently taught the Shakespearean canon, the Victorian Gothic, Romantic Poetry, the Nineteenth Century Novel, many aspects of classical and contemporary dramatic writing and my specialist area, Literature and Gender.
Most recently, I've been a guest speaker at Westminster University, and South Hampstead High School, as well as being a resident artist and lecturer at The University of South Florida. I have also worked as a sessional lecturer in English Studies at The Berkshire College of Agriculture and I've taught GCSE English Literature at Cox Green School in Berkshire.
I teach the below subjects/areas:
Personal Statement Development
Writing and Language skills
Report Writing/Speech Writing
I genuinely love my subjects and being a teacher.
I aim to create an engaging, positive environment in which students can feel relaxed and happy in their learning, working hard to understand the student's learning needs, ensuring we achieve the best possible educational experience and grade outcome. I'm a patient, understanding and creative teacher who actively tries to engage pupils in the subject. I avoid completing work in a rigid way that can cause resistance, but instead encourage analytical study and reflection.
I have a proven, excellent track record of improving grades.
