This is how 4 referees rated Katherine:
I am a patient and friendly person with an enthusiasm for teaching. I am well qualified with a PhD and a Masters degree in Chemistry and I love to encourage others to love Chemistry too. I prefer one-to-one tutoring to class teaching as it is more rewarding and can benefit the student so much more.
I have been tutoring A-level students since 2009 and have acheived some very good results. I have covered most of the major exam boards; OCR, Salters, AQA, Edexcel and WJEC, and have built up a large collection of resources for each.
I also gained teaching experience during my PhD, where I supervised other students in the research group, both PhD and MSc, by advising and encouraging them in their research. I also led tutorial classes for undergraduate students and helped with A-level Chemistry lessons in the local secondary school as a Student Tutor.
From my experience, each student is different with different strengths, weaknesses and learning styles and therefore the lessons would be specific to the needs of the student. We would arrange prior to the lesson what was needed and then the progress would be regularly reviewed. I also like to incorporate past paper questions within the lessons to practise and encourage good exam technique.
