This is how 2 referees rated Kate:
My previous career background is as a Clinical Psychologist and I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. My knowledge of psychology is broad and in-depth. I love my subject and aim to invoke the same passion in my students.
I have four years teaching experience and have worked with both younger people and adults. I have a PGCE teaching qualification. I run a successful Psychology department within a college of Further Education and teach GCSE, AS and A2 Psychology. I also teach on a part-time BSc Psychology degree run at the college, in partnership with the University of Worcester.
I take a student-centred approach to teaching and like to make my lessons fun and engaging, through activities and discussions. I aim to involve the student in their learning, as I find that this increases motivation, which in turn leads to more effective learning. I have an in-depth knowledge of psychology, which means that I can explain the same topic in a multitude of forms, to suit the student and I can draw on my own career experience to bring subjects to life. Because of the breadth of my knowledge, I can help students to draw links between different areas of psychology and to develop an overall critical view of the topic. I am well-read and am able to incorporate higher level materials in to my lessons, in order to stretch and challenge learners aiming for top grades. A strong focus of my lessons is on exam preparation, in terms of understanding exam question requirements, writing style and revision techniques. I am passionate about my subject and believe that this comes through strongly in my lessons.
