I am a recent graduate in music from the University of Cambridge. My particular specialities are composition (I'm a prize-winning composer), music theory (up to ABRSM Grade 8), music history, analysis (including listening) and aural skills. I teach piano up to ABRSM Grade 5.
Since 2014 I've tutored music to a blind GCSE-level student, focusing mainly on composition and theory. I also teach AS Level Music and piano to family members. See below for a testimonial from my client:
'Kate is one of very few people I know who has had the patience to sit with me for hours transcribing my pieces as I dictated them, without which, as a blind composer, I could not have continued to write. She has also massively helped me improve my sense of harmony and deepen my knowledge of writing for various instruments, including the the preparation of pianos, the use of the bow on the vibraphone and how to write for harp. I have been greatly inspired by Kate and her music; I am now hoping for a career in composition, which I would never have had the confidence to consider without her clear but not exaggerated passion, invaluable encouragement and expert advice.'
My friends, family and clients describe me as patient, kind and empathetic, with a sense of humour. Being a professional musician, I have an extensive knowledge of and passion for music.
