I am an Outstanding teacher working at a Grammar School in Kent. I have been teaching for the last 7 years and tutoring for 3. I teach A Level English Literature, A Level Film Studies, GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature, as well as KS3 English. I am very confident in my abilities to understand the nuances of a mark scheme and often work with students who are aiming for the very best grades. Allied to my knowledge of the upper end of the mark scheme, I am also well-versed in the skills to raise that all-important D to C (2/3-4/5) at GCSE.
In terms of grade progression, anecdotally students make on average a 2 grade progression under my tutorage from their predicted grade. When the AS grades were still counted as 50% of the English course, I had a number of students on C and D grades in their AS progress to B and A grades after a year of tutoring.
I began my teaching career in a college in the West Midlands teaching A Level and GCSE English. I worked at the college for four years. In this position I taught learners aged from 16+, including adult learners coming back into education to gain a GCSE in English to enter a different field of work. For the last three years I have been teaching full time in a grammar school teaching years 7-13. Over the course of my teaching career I have experienced a range of different exam boards and am used to adapting my knowledge to fit specific exam criteria.
I foster a productive environment that is very focused on the goal at hand. I am considerate of learners' needs and have tutored students with a range of learning and behavioural difficulties to fruitful outcomes. I like to create resources around learners' interests and I am sensitive to learners' needs.
