I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher/tutor with 24 years of experience and a strong track record of developing successful relationships with pupils. I have taught a massive range of children of different abilities from pupils with severe literacy difficulties to very high achieving pupils.
With extensive and recent experience of teaching GCSE English Language and Literature in mainstream education, I can offer effective GCSE examination preparation focused on the new specifications for the exam boards used by schools in the local area of Lancaster. If your child is struggling with Literacy, I can support them well, having taught one to one intervention for many pupils and been the Head of Literacy and Special Needs Coordinator in two SEBD schools. I also provide a 3-4 weekly bespoke revision programme for all subjects to help teenagers learn how to revise.
Most importantly, I try to make effective and successful relationships with my pupils so that they enjoy their tutoring sessions and feel relaxed and keen to learn.
I try to adapt lessons to suit the interests and specific needs of my pupils and attempt to keep the sessions lively and interesting. However I still recognise the importance of clearly focussing on the assessment objectives of the exams the pupils are preparing for, or the national curriculum requirements that they are expected to meet for their age.
I consider reading to be massively important to a pupils’ success in education and further life and have many strategies to encourage reading practice with a wide knowledge of teenage literature, having resourced two school libraries for reluctant readers.
