Having worked in various NHS jobs, I fulfilled my ambition to study English at university. I enjoyed it so much I felt that it would be ideal to pass on knowledge and enthusiasm to others. I secured a full time teaching job after qualifying and went on to study English at Masters level.
As my experience grew, I applied to one of the leading exam boards to moderate GCSE English assessments; this involves checking that work has been marked accurately. Therefore, I have an in depth understanding of what is required to get the best marks.
Since graduating, my enthusiasm for English has remained constant and I enjoy helping others to appreciate the subject.
I have taught GCSE, AS and A2 English to people aged 16 years and over, for 15 years. This includes English Language and English Literature. I have a lot of experience in teaching people at different levels and am able to adapt my methods to suit the individual. I was also curriculum leader for GCSE English which involved planning and preparing a year long course designed for adult returners and school leavers.
I have a friendly yet professional style of working and believe that a good relationship between student and teacher is half the battle towards learning. I prefer a relaxed approach in order that barriers can be overcome and trust can be developed. I aim to give constructive feedback to encourage learners to build on their understanding and skills. I see each learner as an individual and can adapt to each person's needs. I am enthusiastic about English while at the same time very patient with those who struggle with it.
