Currently I am working as a part time teacher in a comprehensive school teaching science. Science has always been my passion and being able to instil that passion and make learning science enjoyable is one of my main aims. I regularly use my in depth knowledge of both Biology and Chemistry in teaching to transfer this enthusiasm to my tutees. Previously, I achieved a First Class MBiochem degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. I then continued my studies at the University of Cambridge where I obtained an MPhil in Medical Sciences and a PhD in Medicine.
I studied for my PGCE at the University of Cambridge where I was awarded a prize for outstanding contribution to all aspects of the PGCE course. I teach all levels of science from Year 7 to GCSE but specialise in teaching Biology and Chemistry at A-level and GCSE. I have experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities and therefore know how to make material more accessible or more demanding to fits the needs of the tutee.
Despite my academic background, I am very approachable and want to ensure my tutees feel totally comfortable with asking questions and for clarification on any teaching that has been done. My aim is to ensure that all tutees reach their full potential by providing them with suitable challenge during lessons. The tutee will always be fully immersed in the lesson, first assimilating knowledge and then applying their knowledge to new situations, a common skill required to excel in GCSE and A-level examinations. I am also keen that the tutee learns to recognise their own capabilities and so can begin to steer the lesson content themselves by questioning me. A tutee's ability to know how they learn and where they are in their learning really helps the tutee to move forward in their learning, something I strongly encourage throughout our lessons.
