Personal Description:

I am a History and Politics teacher. I have been teaching for 13 years in a range of schools in London, both state and independent. I live in Ealing with my partner of 20 years and my 3 children. I love teaching and I love history.

I grew up in London where I attended Putney High School for my GCSEs. I then went to Westminster school for my A Levels in History, Latin, History of Art and Art. I took a year out after school where I taught English in Tanzania. I then went on to do a History degree at Newcastle, where I gained a 2:1. After my BA I completed an MA at the Central School of Speech and Drama. I completed my PGCE in History Secondary teaching at the institute of Education in 2004 and since then have worked in a range of state and private schools, such as Queens Gate school, as well as tutoring all ages from primary to A Level. I currently teach History and Politics at LEH. In addition I am an examiner for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level with Edexcel and OCR.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a teacher and tutor for 13 years. In this time I have gained an excellent knowledge of the requirements for GCSE and A Level for all the exam boards and I have been able to add to this with my work as an examiner. My passion is for History and Politics and I love my job. I have tutored students who need extra confidence in preparation for their exams, those who need specific help with a particular skill or topic, Oxbridge preparation, coursework assistance and exam and essay skills. My students achieve excellent results.

My particular areas of specialism are Russia, USA History, China, French Revolution, the Cold War, the Tudors, but I also have extensive knowledge of other topics.

Tutoring Approach:

As an experienced teacher and tutor, I recognise that all students approach the subject in different ways and have different strengths and areas for improvement. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement however this must be combined with academic rigour. My work as a GCSE and A Level examiner gives me a valuable insight into what it is that examiners are looking for and I will use this to bring out the best in my students but at the same time help them be as prepared as they can be for public examinations. I am patient and enthusiastic - I love my subjects - and I aim to instil this enthusiasm in my students. I tutor because I love teaching and enjoy the satisfaction and progress students can make one to one. It is important that lessons are interesting and engaging and tailored to the individual pupil.
