Personal Description:

I have been teaching privately and in colleges for the past 10 years, which has enabled me to work around my three children. I am passionate about all aspects of English and believe it is the back-bone of successful academic study. I am lucky that I have always been a confident person and have been told that I am good at imparting that to my students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been extremely fortunate to teach GCSE (Language & Literature) A Level and undergraduate (Literature)English to a variety of students, from school age to adult returners. Alongside my specialist subject teaching, I have taught Study Skills modules which focuses on the practical and organisational side of learning.I like to build these skills into the teaching sessions in order to help students feel more control of their learning.I have headed Access to Higher Education programmes in colleges for students returning to education. As a result of this experience, I now work for an Exam Board moderating in colleges throughout the south.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is two-fold: I like to respond to student need and therefore will plan sessions based around what is required presently. For example, if students are cramming for exams, then sessions will be dominated by focusing on exam revision and technique. Secondly, whilst tutoring I identify where further knowledge or skills are required and so build in additional activities or exercises to the sessions to enhance or improve the level the student is working at. One of my mantra's is "keep it simple" - I don't over complicate and so therefore students I have tutored in the past have positively commented on key phrases or terms that have worked for them, provided clarity and helped them in their exams. My sessions are not a mystery. I like to explain to parents what we have covered in the session and why and what we will focus on in future sessions. That way, I feel that parents are not only included, but know what they are getting for their money.
