I'm a 26-year-old Physics graduate from Cambridge University living in South London. I studied Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics in the final two years) and attained a first in my finals in May 2014. I have tutored regularly since I was 17 and have around 2000 one-to-one teaching hours under my belt.
I'm available to tutor Maths and Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics (up to A-level), 11+ entrance, Interview preparation and Oxbridge Preparation.
I went to school at Alleyn's Independent School in South London where I was School Captain and an academic scholar. I attained 10 A*s at GCSE, 4 A*s at A level (in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) and 5 As at AS level (in the above subjects and English). I taught myself the A2 Further Maths syllabus and got full marks in Chemistry.
I've worked regularly as a tutor over the last five years and have approximately 800 hrs of one-to-one lesson experience with an age range of 5-19. I have taught over 30 students in total and at least 20 of those for longer than six months so can provide multiple references. I have tutored the following subjects:
A-Level: Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics
GCSE: Maths, Sciences (single, double and triple), English.
Public and Grammar school entrance examinations: 7+, 9+, 11+, 13+ (including Eton Scholarship exam)
One-on-one lessons are far more effective than group sessions because they can be student-led. I press my students to speak as much as possible so that I can pinpoint areas of weak understanding swiftly and avoid wasting time on topics that are already well-understood.
I try and vary sessions, particularly with younger students, in order to maintain concentration levels throughout. For example, in maths and science lessons I will tend to conduct a quiz mid-way through the lesson to avoid stagnation and like to conduct informal lessons because I think a student is far more likely to learn when they are relaxed.
