I love teaching and especially tutoring - the one-to-one experience is rewarding and results are always excellent. I am a full time teacher and a mother of two teenagers, so I have plenty of experience of working with young people. I love learning myself and think I am able to pass on that inspiration and drive for achievement. I have worked as an academic freelance writer, writing model essays for universities. I achieved 1st Class at degree level and also won the Ede & Ravenscroft Academic Prize for the highest grade in an interdisciplinary degree. All that said, I am down to earth and, I hope, am able to break complicated matters apart into simple, understandable parts.
I am currently teaching three A levels at Cranbrook Grammar School; Religious Studies (OCR), Philosophy (AQA) and Psychology (AQA). I have been a tutor for nearly all ages, although I currently concentrate on A level in particular as this complements my main teaching post, as I have many resources already in place. I have taught students from many different acclaimed institutions including Kings College London, Eton, Cheltenham Girls and Charter House to name but a few. I received an 'Outstanding' from Ofsted when I qualified and was also recognised as Outstanding in my last Department Review. I am an examiner for AQA A Psychology, Edexcel RS/Philosophy and OCR Religious Studies.
My approach is very much results based. I begin with the exam board specification and work precisely with that board's requirements. Coaching is not cheap so I don't waste time when A level coaching on subjects that are not directly related to the exam. I include applied exam technique, e.g. working on timing or reviewing examiner reports as poor exam technique often loses pupils otherwise easily attained marks. I fully appreciate how significant this part of an young adult's life is to them in terms of confidence and identity. Reinforcing a student's belief in his or her ability to succeed is a crucial aspect of my approach.
