I have a lively approach to literacy and learning, individualised to each learner, using a variety of teaching methods, formal and informal, active and visual. With specialist teaching qualifications in dyslexia and language acquisition, I have a lot of experience working with learners who have difficulties such as dyspraxia, autism and also visual or hearing impairments. My aim is that the tutee will know that the sessions have helped them learn and improve! They should soon see an increase in confidence and progress.
After 18 years in mainstream primary and secondary schools focusing on literacy at all levels I 've been working in Leicestershire as a Tutor (both local authority funded and private work) for three years. Much of this centres on preparation for GCSE. This means I am up to date on current curriculum and exam demands. I’m a holistic teacher–I want to inspire a love of learning and of using language in learning. Lessons will include fun but I will expect work and good concentration. Additionally I am an experienced Study Skills Tutor with students with dyslexia at University (Birmingham).

Alongside specialist work I do specific English coaching for Common Entrance at 11+ and 13+ as well as coaching for study skills for GCSEs at whatever level. This year (exams June 2019) again I am tutoring a number of students with ASD for GCSE. My special passion is English - Literature and Language.
Prior to taking on a tutee I would like to meet for at least 45 minutes with learner and parent and view latest school reports. We need to discuss what is required. After two paid tutoring sessions I report on progress in the areas agreed and identified, giving detailed feedback and for us to have further discussion.You will want to know what my assessment of your child’s particular areas of weakness may be and how I best judge to work to further their progress in literacy. It is vital that we both know what we are to expect from each other. Within these meetings we will agree on what sort of homework tasks are appropriate. Progress will be regularly monitored and parents kept informed.
