I teach English because I am passionate about language, communication and the power of words. I teach because there is nothing better than seeing students grow in understanding, develop in ability and achieve.
I've taught in Further Education for fifteen years, and prior to this I worked in secondary and primary education. I have experience as an A level examiner and also as a 1:1 tutor for KS3, GCSE and A level English, both Language and Literature.
I have up to date experience in teaching a range of English and and English related subjects: GCSE English Language, A level English Language and Literature, Access to Literature (for mature students), and a module in Language Acquisition on a Foundation Degree course. Currently I am Course Leader for the Access to Higher Education programme. I am up to date with the new specifications for both GCSE and A level and have experience teaching these specifications for several exam boards. I have consistently been graded 1 or 2 in lesson observations.
I can also provide study skills support, proof read dissertations and assist students with personal statements for university applications.
I believe that everyone should be given enough support to achieve their potential. I am approachable and flexible, and have never considered that the role of the teacher finishes when the face-to-face session ends. If you come to me for tutoring, you can expect planned sessions which are tailored to your individual needs, as well as encouragement, constructive criticism and guidance in exam technique.
