I am a M.A Graduate in English Literature, and have been privately tutoring for the past ten years. I studied at Glasgow University, specialising in Victorian Realism, Modernities & the politics of Gender, specifically Feminist Literary Theory & Rhetoric;
I worked for the SQA for two years in the certification department where we dealt with SCOTEC/SCOTVEC/SCOTBEC modules in addition to main diet certification qualifications, (e.g, SQA Higher).
I hold a fully up to date PVG and CRB check.
Description and Key Achievements:
• Supervise and tutor third, final year and post-graduate Victorian and Modernities students; a number of whom attend The University of Glasgow.
• Personally tutor a number of students requiring additional communicative and written support and work with 'Dyselxia Action'; also at the University.
• Keep up to date with current Primary and Secondary schooling course content, presentation expectations and enhanced marking criteria under the revised curriculum for excellence guidelines.
Private tutoring involves teaching students from Standard Grade (now obsolete, replaced with National 5) - Degree level; wide range of SQA resources and past papers available; as well as Shakespeare, Modern, American, Victorian and Romantic paper questions and interpretative strategies; also adept with textual analysis, literary deconstruction, preparation/guidance on close reading requirements and proofreading students' work prior to submission.
With the impending changes to the education system, particularly in lieu of Cfe (Curriculum for Excellence) expectations, I am currently tutoring a number of client(s) working towards their Nat4/Nat5; additional added value assessment resourcing and preparation material available, particularly for Close Reading practice and the construction of a succinct and pertinent folio, and the expectations of the Nat4/5 presentation
New clients; Higher English has also been subject to a number of refinements for the 2017-2022 certification process, which I am adept with. This is extremely important when it alludes to the Scottish Set Text option, particularly poetry.
With regards to TEFL and ESOL teaching, I am fully qualified to tutor both these qualifications, having gained my own TEFL certification and tutoring ESOL at a business teaching centre in London for a period of just under 12 months.
I have taught in excess of 80 students during my registration on 'First Tutors' , all of whom have passed their national qualifications for English.
I am a friendly and approachable person and have found that students are able to be at ease in my company; I maintain consistent contact, through email generally, and keep up to date records of course material and expect students to work to a high level. I am a firm believer that there cannot be a generic approach to teaching student(s), thus a tailored and individual lesson plan, and subsequent trajectory, is much more benefical in my tutoring experience thus-far.
N.B if a potential client is requiring my tuition, can I ask that they contact me first rather than buying my details through the direct release option. I currently have only a few tuition slots available and would not want to waste a person's time by being unable to tutor at a specific time desired. Thank you
Also, if a client needs to cancel a lesson, can you give me at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations made within 24 hours are subject to the full price of the lesson. Thank you
Given the current COVID-19 Pandemic, lessons need to be performed online. Therefore, can any student requiring tuition tell me what level and resourcing/help they need so as to aid as best as possible.
