This is how 2 referees rated Juan A:
I am a native Spaniard, resident in the UK since 1984. Married since 1986 (British wife), we have three children, all with higher education at Cambridge University. I have a life-long passion for education and science (particularly mathematics), having worked at Oxford University for six years. I am affable and approachable, a patient and dedicated teacher. I am also a very keen chess player, having played at club level for more than 20 years.
I have worked for three years as a teacher of Mathematics in two local grammar schools. I have taught pupils in KS3, KS4 and KS5. I recently decided to leave classroom teaching in order to work full-time as a Maths tutor.
I strongly believe that progress in Mathematics is best achieved by enjoying a strong foundation in the basic concepts that underpin the subject. A solid foundation makes possible to appreciate the many connections that link the various mathematical domains. As a Maths tutor, I see one of my main roles as a facilitator of this awareness, quite often neglected in the classroom. Once my pupils reach a better understanding of the intricate mesh of mathematical ideas, learning and recall become significantly easier to achieve and maintain.
