Personal Description:

I have just completed a Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Warwick. I have a lot of experience in private subject-tutoring and have previously taught piano and saxophone. I am well qualified at GCSE, FSMQ and A level, having always attained the highest possible grades. While being taught A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, I also taught myself an AS level in Additional Further Mathematics.

Academics aside, I also have an agreeable personality; I am well-humoured and never take myself too seriously… despite being a mathematician! This is verifiable in my feedback. I see this quality as important because people often learn best when they feel comfortable, and feel more comfortable when taught in a relaxed atmosphere by someone who is willing to have a laugh!

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored mathematics and physics to KS3, GCSE and A level students, and my tutoring was well received. I also have experience in teaching piano and saxophone to students ranging from six years old to thirty years old and so I am quite aware of the fact that different people learn in different ways and at different rates; I am highly adaptable in my teaching methods because of this. Tutoring Approach:

I will first talk to the student, and distinguish the main problem-areas for them in the subject. I believe that it is extremely important to understand WHY a concept works and where it comes from, not just how to use it, because it is much easier to apply a concept when one knows the logic behind it; for this reason I like to discern the reason why the student struggles with the particular concept and then seek to help them to understand it and it's origin. (Of course there are circumstances where this is clearly not the right approach for a particular student, in which case I can adapt my methods accordingly.)

Keen to be the best tutor I can, I welcome and encourage feedback from my students; as a result I have been honing my skills and consistently improving my teaching ability.
