Personal Description:

I have a PhD in English literature from the University of Warwick and am a published academic researcher. Currently, I work with Higher Education students of all disciplines at Coventry University to enable them to write effective academic assignments, as well as create targeted job/further study applications. My work enables students to get the best grades they can while simultaneously developing the suitability of their writing for professional contexts.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored one-to-one and lectured in academic writing and writing for professional contexts at Coventry University since September 2015.

Previously, I taught English literature to undergraduate students at the universities of Manchester and Warwick, and study skills to international postgraduate business students at the University of Leeds.

A qualified English as a second language teacher, I have worked at language schools in Liverpool and Italy, and have experience in tutoring non-native speakers for writing in a Higher Education context.

Tutoring Approach:

Having worked with learners of all levels and disciplines, from undergraduate nursing students writing their first academic essay to doctoral candidates in the sciences writing for publication, I am able to quickly identify the writing needs of clients and create bespoke approaches accordingly.

I recommend students bring a copy of an assignment they are currently working on to sessions. Through this, I am able to ensure that my teaching is appropriately targeted and has a meaningful impact on clients' current writing needs.

My approach emphasizes writing and study strategies which reflect the personalities of individual students. Careful planning and note talking is effective for many but for others a more experiential approach, in which writing forms a key part of formulating ideas, is necessary. This method enables students to develop into autonomous, self-conscious researchers and writers, facilitating long-term gains and ultimately better grades.

In addition, I am experienced in working with learners on job and study documents. Drawing on my in-depth knowledge of Higher Education, I am particularly well-placed to provide guidance on study applications and research proposals.
