Hi, I am a qualified maths teacher and for the last two years I've been teaching in Gordano School, rated 'Outstanding' by OFSTED. I've successfully taught classes from Year 7 to Upper Sixth, including several priority GCSE groups. I'm 27 and a Maths graduate from Cardiff University.
I am now taking some time away from school to pursue my other passion as an artist. I want to continue to support maths students in the meantime, as I understand the pressure students are under, and really enjoy seeing them master a topic and the encouragement this gives them. Aside from the painting, I love football, slack-lining, music, travelling and getting out into the wild whenever possible.
I qualified from the respected PGCE at Bristol University in 2013 and have been developing techniques and strategies to support sound mathematical learning since then. I love making maths engaging and fun for students, often through puzzles, games or a creative task.
I have taught classes across all years and abilities, including Key Stage 3, GCSE classes, Additional Maths (OCR) and both AS and A2 Core classes with Mechanics and Decision modules. My students have consistently grown in confidence and made rapid progress towards and beyond their targets
Previous to the PGCE, I was a maths tutor on this website in Cardiff, supporting students from GCSE up to degree level.
I have also taught English as a Foreign Language full time in Spain for one year, the majority in one-on-one classes with teenagers and adults. I took the Trinity Certified TESOL English teaching qualification in Bloomsbury, London, much of which was transferable to Maths tutoring.
I believe patient and focused work with clear examples will develop strengths, improve areas of weakness and eradicate simple mistakes. In my classroom, I have learnt to quickly identify key misconceptions that are affecting a student’s workings, and to build up clear, accurate workings built on solid foundations that the student understands.
I will be able to work through problem areas and specific examples with the student like a driving instructor, providing hints and instructions at the right time but letting the student do the real work in order to build confidence and understanding.
