Hull Tutor

I'm a PhD researcher (nearing completion) within the Department of Government at the University of Essex. My research is within the field of policy analysis and crosses the boundaries between the disciplines of sociology, politics and political theory.

I have a wide range of interests within the humanities and the social sciences. I also have an interest within social care having worked within the field for fifteen years. I currently live in Hull.

Tutoring Experience

I have three years of university teaching experience at Essex. This includes the planning and delivery of classes for first and second year undergraduates, one to one help with the planning and writing of course work, the marking of course work and exam papers. .

Tutoring Approach

First I will discuss with you what your tutoring needs are and suggest a plan going forward. I'm friendly and approachable and have an awareness that different people have different learning styles.

Where the focus is on providing guidance on the development of course work (undergraduate essays and dissertations) I will provide the following:

(1) Annotated comments within the main body of your work.
(2) Extensive commentary (at least 400 words for an essay) on your work, outlining strengths and weaknesses. I will make suggestions as to how to improve and further develop your work in the areas of content, style and structure.

This work can be partially discussed on Skype ('face-to-face'), by instant messaging, or all by email - whichever you would prefer.

If you want tutorial help with understanding a particular subject then please let me know and we can explore the possibility of one to one tutoring, either in person if you live within Hull, or via Skype. My key areas of interest and expertise are political philosophy, cultural studies, sociology, the regulation of the professions, psychoanalytic informed approaches to social research, discourse analysis, gender studies, philosophy of science.
