Personal Description:

I hold BA Music from the University of Southampton and A Levels in Music, Law and English Language, as well as Grade 8 in Piano. I started learning the piano at the age of 7, and since, music has remained an incredible passion of mine. After completing my Grade 5 Theory of Music in 2006, I became increasingly fascinated by the theory of music, which created a basis for an interest in composition and tonal harmony. Studying music further led me towards some incredible and inspiring teachers and students, who were a joy to work with. University enabled me to develop my knowledge of music and apply it to the industry, whilst gaining experience at the same time. Today, I thrive upon inspiring others and helping others learn about my subject. I am also a freelance composer and performer.

Tutoring Experience:

I have volunteered in a number of primary schools, learning how to engage 7-11 year-olds in the fundamentals of music - for example, singing a simple tune to a piano accompaniment or clapping their hands to a rhythm.

More recently, I have undertaken work experience in secondary schools, providing support for individuals in the classroom and encouraging perseverance and enthusiasm. I helped the children complete classroom tasks, which required help with understanding basic theory.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on enthusiasm, drive and commitment, which all stem from my personality. I adapt to individuals easily, remaining calm, empathetic and polite, but at the same time positive and upbeat. I encourage efficiency, and try to make the most of the time available. In my experience, being taught one-to-one is extremely effective in the sense that a topic can be explained fully without classroom distractions. Furthermore, despite my eagerness to inspire a learner with a particularly stimulating aspect of a topic, I like them to discover the mysteries of it themselves and not just simply obey what is required of them.
Although challenging at times, as with any subject, music is an exciting thing, and this excitement can fuel achievement.

Although based in Hampshire, I am available to teach in Exeter and the surrounding area between 17 July and 18 August.
Otherwise, I will be in Southampton from early September onwards.

Get in touch for more information or to arrange a meeting - I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks!
