This is how 2 referees rated Jonathan:
I am an academically proven individual and passionate tutor providing the highest quality tuition for GCSE and A-level students in the discipline of Law.
Having secured a training contract with a leading regional law firm in Southampton, I have recently completed the path from GCSE student to future Trainee Solicitor with great success. The academic expertise I have gained throughout this journey has provided invaluable knowledge and grounding for tutoring GCSE and A-level students.
In my spare time I am a keen sportsman playing football and golf on a regular basis. It is debatable whether I am getting something close to value for money from my gym membership.
At university I provided one-to-one tutoring for Business Management students undertaking a law module as part of their degree. Each of my tutees obtained grades from 2:1 to a first class standard in those modules. Furthermore, as former Vice President of the University of Surrey Law Society I organised and participated in numerous academic study groups where students could lead revision seminars and teach their peers on a given topic of law before exams.
Additionally, I have broader experience in student coaching having held various positions of responsibility throughout my academic career such as “Student Mentor”. This position required one-to-one coaching of a student on a weekly basis throughout his GCSE years. I thoroughly enjoyed providing help and guidance to my mentee who went on to study Business Management at university.
All academic tutors should guarantee a positive learning environment, stimulating lesson plans and dedication to the individual needs of each tutee. However, in my opinion tutoring law requires more than these fundamentals.
It is often thought that law students must possess a natural intellectual brilliance and an ability to read thousands of pages in silence with little to get excited about. Conversely, law students are actually required to critically engage with a range of rules, ideas and concepts based on a history of legal precedent spanning across hundreds of years. Furthermore, the problem questions law students will face in their exams require the use of a creative and practical approach when applying legal knowledge to bizarre and comical scenario facts.
With this in mind I encourage students to think outside the box, to develop and utilise critical thinking skills, and to express opinions with confidence when studying the law. This style of tutoring law is balanced by equipping tutees with the ability to first grasp a wider understanding of the overall content and individual fact-scoring points before seeking out those all important marks for analysis.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like further information or to book a place on my tuition programme. Please be advised that £30.00 per hour is my charge if I tutor from home.
