Hello, my name is Jonathan and I have just recently completed my MSc in International Relations. Prior to this, I obtained a first class classification for my BA History and Politics joint degree.
Regarding the academic spheres of politics, history and philosophy, I am a very dedicated and knowledgeable tutor. My main area of expertise is in Middle Eastern history and politics, but I am also well read in other areas - British, American and European. Indeed, the typical historical topics taught in Scottish schools include: the First and Second World Wars, the Russian Revolution and the Scottish Wars of Independence.
With my acute grasp of the Scottish curriculum, I have assisted history and politics students come to grips with the sheer amount of information required to succeed in academia, while also, helping them cultivate a genuine interest in their respective subjects.
Having prepared numerous oral presentations within classroom environments, I have developed into an effective communicator - being able to easily convey complex ideas in an comprehensible manner. In sum, my effectiveness as a tutor is primarily based on my extensive presentation experience.
Firstly, I think it is imperative to make sure the parent and student is comfortable with my teaching style. As such, I have elected to make all first lessons with new prospective students completely free.
In my opinion, the best approach to tutoring is to focus on a few key areas at a time, as learners (particularly ones that are already struggling with the coursework) can get easily overwhelmed. While I always come fully prepared with the necessary materials for lessons, I think it is best if the student (or parent) identifies which particular area of a topic they wish to focus on prior to the lesson.
Finally, when it comes to exams, I recognise how daunting a time it can be for any learner. Consequently, I will make sure the student is well prepared for any upcoming tests/exams or essays, which in turn, supplies them with the confidence needed to succeed.
