Personal Description:

I am a fun, energetic and inspirational teacher who is passionate about raising achievement at all levels. Whether you need support to achieve above a C grade at GCSE, an A* at A-Level or a 1st at degree level, I am a firm believer that an outstanding teacher starts from understanding the needs of the learner. Teaching at every level should be tailored towards the needs of the learner and to support the progress of the learner. I pride myself on building excellent relationship with tutees. I am extremely grateful to my students of 2011-12 and 2012-13 who awarded me with a National Teaching Awards, 'nominated Teacher of the Year' certificate.

Tutoring Experience:

FROM THE START… Having qualified with a 2:1 in Sociology from Staffordshire University in 2000, I then trained as a teacher under the expert guidance of Tony Lawson (ATSS, Sociology Review) from the University of Leicester. Along with achieving outstanding references during my PGCE, a range of my GCSE and A-Level worksheets were published to illustrate best practice.

I started my teaching career in 2001 in Borehamwood and in my first year I was nominated for Teacher of the Year award which demonstrated the commitment I put into my teaching and also the students I teach. From this point on I have worked in Hertfordshire and currently in a mixed ability Secondary School in inner-city London. Throughout this time I have held many management responsibilities including; Assistant Head of Year, Head of Year, SMSC co-ordinator, Head of Social Sciences Department, Head of Humanities Faculty and also Head of Sixth Form. Throughout my teaching career I have turned around departments to achieve the highest results in a school, with my most recent results at A-Level being 100% A-E, including 40% A-B grades. During a recent inspection my teaching was graded as 'outstanding'.

I am also a teacher at the London School of Economics, teaching Sociology to the most able A-Level students in London. Amongst the topics I taught were the impact of London Gangs, Nike and Globalisation and Changing Identities in contemporary society.

I have extensive experience in tutoring Entrance Exams to secondary schools (11+ exams), with 100% of my previous tutees all achieving the school of their choice based on their Maths and Verbal Reasoning scores. I am currently leading on various 11+ initiatives in the South-Herts consortium area preparing students for the Watford 11+ Entrance Exams. I am also within the areas of Barnet (with specific knwoledge of preparaing students for QE Boys/Girls), Harrow and also Buckinghamshire. I can offer Maths, Verbal Reasoning, non-Verbal Reasoning and English in both standard and multiple choice formats.

I have had over 10 years (3 years as head of Sixth Form) of working with students UCAS applications, Personal Statements and also University choices. In the past 5 years 100% of students have achieved a place to read the subject of their choice at University

I can offer the following sessions:
One-off tutoring sessions, a number of sessions over a period of time following a detailed scheme of work, intensive one-week exam-focused sessions, exam practice, a complete GCSE or A-Level course, University Personal Statement support/writing technique/feedback.

Nominated for Teacher of the Year 2011-12 and 2012-13.
Specialist in Sociology, Psychology, 11+ Exams (esp London, Watford, St Albans, Bucks and Barnet), KS2 Maths, KS2 English

I have the ability to tutor any of the following subjects across a range of examination boards. In addition to GCSE and A-Level qualifications I can tutor at degree level and also Secondary School Entrance Exams (11+ exams) too.

Within the past year I have helped my tutees achieve some outstanding results in Sociology. 100% of my AS/A2 tutees improved on their school-based predicted grade, with many tutees starting with a predicted grade of D and achieving A grades, with one student achieving 100%.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring must be focused on the learner at all times and must be reflective of the learner's needs. My approach to tutoring will differ from student to student and all resources will be specifically made for each session taking into account the preferred learning style of the tutee.

As part of my tutoring I will offer the following:
- Session 1: Creation of a bespoke scheme of work tailored to YOUR needs. This scheme of work will form the pattern of tutoring for the future sessions.
- Each tutee will be issued with a folder with the scheme of work at the front to provide a clear journey of learning that will take place.
- ALL resources will be reflective of the learning styles of the learner (visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners).
- ALL resources will be created by myself and will be in colour.
- Assessment points will be provided throughout each scheme of work which will be related to your examboard specification.
- Regular homework assessments will be given to assess the learning from each session.
- Exam practice, exam modelling, exam-writing feedback, essay writing frames.
