An enthusiastic Geographer who has a passion for science and the natural world. I'm an avid reader and enthusiastic sportsman who enjoys mountaineering and wild camping. Recent trips to the Dolomites, Patagonia and Mont Blanc.
I am currently the Head of Geography at a large secondary comprehensive school (1800 students) in Warwickshire. I have grown the department to one of the largest in the UK, with currently over 560 stduents who have selected to study Geography at GCSE. I am a keen physical geographer even though my degree was focussed on human geography and development. Having previously taught across all the main exam board specifications (OCR, Edexcel & AQA), Geography is in a fluid and changing stage. Currently I have chosen to deliver the new Edexcel and OCR specifications to GCSE and A-Level respectively.
I am well aware of the challenges to the KS4 and KS5 Geography courses, and therefore a lot of my tutoring would be focussed on the complex language of the course, the numerical/graphical skills element of Geography and of course exam technique.
Tutoring at 1-2-1 is a very effective approach to learning as long as there is structure involved. I do like 2 hour sessions as they tend to be very productive and can achieve a finer balance between exam technique and content review. However change my appraoch to all learners needs.
I can talk specifications all day, but hopefully my best attribute as a successful tutor is my personable approach and good humour. I rarely take on more than one or two contracts each year, making sure I have the time needed to deliver an effective programme.
