Personal Description:

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to view my tutoring profile. Below is a brief description of my experience, expertise, and ethos.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am confident that we may work together successfully to provide a supporting, engaging, and motivational framework for you, or your child, to succeed academically.

I am a qualified teacher with a First Class Honours Degree in Linguistics, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, and a Masters in Transformational Leadership within an Educational Setting. I have been working as a professional tutor for the last 5 years. My workload is balanced between working for The Virtual School for Looked After Children as a 1-2-1 tutor in East Sussex Tavistock Tutors as a 1-2-1 tutor in London self-employed as a 1-2-1 tutor.

I am a friendly, patient and passionate individual. I am aware that individuals learn at their own pace and am able to provide intervention, extension or additional support depending on the individual needs of students.

I believe learning is a life long pursuit and hope to instill positive attitudes towards learning in each and every individual I collaborate with. I endeavour to nurture curiosity and facilitate the passionate pursuit of knowledge and skills by adopting, communicating, and instilling a growth mindset perspective (see Caroline Dweck (Educational Psychologist)).

My strengths:
I have a degree in English Language and Linguistics, a teaching degree, and Masters in Transformational Leadership within an Educational Setting.
I have real experience in taking students through a challenging range of texts and skills so that they are able to successfully complete their GCSE examinations to the best of their ability.
I am familiar with extending pupils who are aiming for A* targets while also pushing students who are aiming for a C grade.
I have a clear and extensive understanding of all exam boards` success criteria and am confident that anyone - with the right support - is able to achieve any goal they set themselves.

* Cancellation of pre-paid lessons will result in the retention of the fee paid, unless a re-arrangement of the cancelled session is possible within the relevant month.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher. This means I have worked as a classroom teacher in a mainstream school: I have real hands-on experience of guiding students through a variety of skill-sets for different exam boards. It also entails that I have a wealth of relevant experience in meeting the educational needs of individuals from all walks of life, alongside all relevant resources required to be successful.

I have been tutoring 1-2-1 for the last 5 years. I have real experience working 1-2-1 and over the last 5 years have developed a range of exceptionally practical resources, an exceptional understanding of the needs of individuals through constructive dialogue and communication, a systematic and motivating process for ensuring learning is not only achieved, but enjoyed.

Tutoring Approach:

Effective learning arises in situations where strong trust, collaborative communication, aspirational expectations, and increasing self-efficacy are established. These core values underpin my professional approach to tuition, and promote the progression towards higher outcome goals.

I facilitate effective learning by providing: hands-on mastery experiences that challenge current knowledge and facilitate progress; effective modelling to demonstrate performance expectations; formative feedback to support the learning cycle, and self-esteem; and psychological arousal by providing intrinsically motivating, bespoke materials.

I strongly believe that learning arises not just from representations of conceptual material but from critical questioning as learners engage with new, exciting, and unfamiliar material. I strongly advocate an environment in which the learner is analysing and critically evaluating new material within, and without, the contexts within which they are presented: Not only should learning relate to specific subjects and examinations, but also to real-world application with reference to the ‘bigger picture’.
