Joel

My name is Joel and I am 36 years old. I have been a Maths Teacher for the past nine years. I trained in Primary before moving to Secondary for five years. Currently, I work in a sixth form Special Needs provision for students with moderate learning difficulties.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught at Primary Level, Secondary Level (up to and including GCSE) and within a Special Needs provision.
To summarize my experience I have bullet-pointed below:
- Gifted and Talented Coordinator (for the department)
- Mentor to Newly Qualified Teachers
- Primary Liaison for my department (when working at Secondary)
- Key Stage 3 coordinator (for the department)
- Key Stage 4 coordinator (for the department)
- Year 11 Lead Teacher for Maths
- Year 11 Pupil Progress Coordinator (for the school)
I have been fortunate enough to be selected for and successfully complete the 'Outstanding Teacher Programme' and the 'Outstanding Leadership Programme' which I believe has helped me develop as a teacher.
- Key stage 4/5 Maths Coordinator
- National Professional Qualification - Leading in Teaching
- National Award in Special Educational Needs

Tutoring Approach

I believe my main approach to Tutoring would be flexible (although I do try to make it as enjoyable as possible!). I have tutored students previously and understand a 'one size fits all' approach does not work when teaching one-to-one or as a class teacher. If you would like me to follow the same topics and methods as the student's current class teacher then that would not be a problem. Equally, if you would prefer I carry out an initial assessment and work on key topics and skills then I would be happy to do so. I am confident that I can help the student as much as possible and therefore I am happy to tailor my teaching to however you see fit. I can set homework, revisit topics and/or devise a simple scheme of work to follow. Again, I am here to help and therefore happy to individualise my approach in order to be successful.
