I have just completed the second year of a Master of Mathematics degree at the University of Warwick with a high 2.1. Outside of academia, I love sport - particularly football - climbing, hanging out with friends and having a laugh!
I tutored AS level maths at drop-in sessions at Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College, where students asked about problems they were having with assignments, and any mathematical questions.
From experience, I know that learning maths in pressured and stressful surroundings can be extremely difficult, so my approach to tutoring adopts a relaxed, but also an efficient, working environment. The general trend of my teaching is to explain 'why' a result is true, and then move on to applying it - an approach which is not really followed in most primary and secondary schools for teaching maths. By doing this, the tutee will not only have a deeper understanding of the result, but will also be able to apply it with more ease, quickness and understanding. Also, furthering mathematical ability comes down to confidence and a willingness to try something even if it doesn't work at first - this is something that will be improved with my tutoring. Maths should be fun and interesting to learn, and in order to ensure this, the tutee must be willing to 'have a go', this is all I ask!
In addition to this, if I see it is beneficial and the tutee is up for it, I will go into undergraduate topics to further their understanding and stimulation.
