I am a graduate of Warwick University where I achieved a bachelors degree in Mathematics. I have always been an enthusiastic mathematician and gained A*s in all of my maths exams when I was in high school and sixth form.
I have a variety of experience in both teaching and tutoring to many different ages.
Whilst studying for my A levels, I set up a successful after-school Maths club for year 5s at a local primary school.
During my gap year, I worked as a tutor in my old high school, where I was paid to help students of all abilities with their mathematics studies.
Furthermore, I have spent the last 3 summers working as a volunteer teacher in South Africa, where I taught in front of classes of fifty students who spoke almost no english.
I am confident that these experiences have made me an effective tutor and I look forward to helping learners overcome their difficulties with maths.
I believe that the best way to learn mathematics is by gaining a thorough conceptual understanding of the subject, rather than just memorising techniques. That is to say, I would like my tutees to know why numbers behave in the way they do and use that knowledge to solve problems themselves and therefore perform better in exams. Of course, this can be very difficult to achieve in the stress of a classroom!
A tutee should never feel like they cannot say when they don't understand, and should never feel embarrassed to ask more questions. I am a friendly, relaxed and patient individual and through my tutoring I like to create an environment where a student can work towards the understanding of a topic at their own pace.
