I'm a thorough and passionate Head of English who is able to work some week nights and during the weekend. I live in Bradford-on-Avon. I also teach at a secondary school in Durrington. I have a 2:1 degree in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and a history of successful results.
I've been teaching English for the last seventeen years. I've taught AQA English Literature, English Language and all three specifications of English Language and Literature at A-level. I have also marked GCSE English Language paper 2 in 2017, and GCSE English Language Paper 1 in 2018 and 2023 as an examiner - this has given me a forensic understanding of how to succeed in these papers.
I like to inspire confidence, particularly with potentially challenging exams. I do a lot of work explaining what the examination requires, so that students are secure and feel able to cope with the exam. Discussion is an important way of stimulating ideas and, on a technical level, I don't mind explaining grammatical rules. When reading, I encourage students to look for particular aspects of texts to allow them to be more proficient individually.
