This is how 3 referees rated Joe:
I am a PhD economics candidate at Lancaster University close to submitting my doctoral thesis. I have five years experience offering private tuition.
I have taught students at world-class universities including LSE, UCL and NYU. I adeptly draw out the intuition behind complex economic and mathematical concepts and demonstrate theory using examples from personal interests. My easy-going attitude combined with exhaustive prior preparation means that my tutees find my sessions enjoyable and productive.
I hold both an MSc (distinction) and a BSc (first class) in Economics. I was the highest ranked student for both of my degree programmes, and I am the recipient of many awards from Lancaster University for my academic achievements (listed below).
I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Body which reflects the investments I have made in developing excellent teaching practices. Since 2015, I have been employed to teach an undergraduate economics course at a top 10 UK university.
Chancellor's Medal, LUMS Dean's List and Best Academic Performance Prize (Dec 2015): Awarded for the best academic performance across the University, Management School, and economics department respectively.
Professor Balasubramanyam Prize (Nov 2015): Awarded for the "most outstanding performance in mathematical economics and econometrics."
Professor Balasubramanyam Prize (Jul 2014): Awarded for delivering the "most outstanding performance in the field of development economics."
Elizabeth Brunner Prize (Jul 2013 and Jul 2014): Awarded to the "most outstanding and meritorious second/third year undergraduate in the department of economics."
Philip Andrews Memorial Prize (Jul 2012): Awarded for exceptional academic performance in Part I (Year 1) BSc economics studies.
For the past three years, I have taught "Principles of Economics" which is a first-year undergraduate course at the University of Lancaster. I started working part-time as a private tutor in economics in early 2013. Since then, I have offered tuition to over fifty satisfied students; both in person and remotely over the internet. In some cases, I have tutored students in each year of their degree programmes.
My tutoring experience covers elementary mathematics, to advanced economic and econometric theory, as well as applied economics (such as dissertation research projects). In addition to economics tuition, I can help students get to grips with complicated econometrics and statistical software programmes, such as Stata, SPSS, R and eViews.
In 2017, I gained Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. The HEA promotes reflective and evidence-based teaching practice at universities, and my membership reflects my commitment to excellent teaching practice. I have attended multiple teaching workshops including those organised by the Economics Network - a body which promotes good teaching practice in economics education.
I have experience providing tuition in the following fields:
microeconomics (principles, intermediate and advanced)
macroeconomics (principles, intermediate, advanced and applied)
econometrics (statistical underpinning, theory and applications)
mathematical economics (introductory, intermediate and advanced)
public economics and political economics, labour economics (including the economics of education, and health economics), industrial organisation, development economics, sports economics, financial economics, and international banking and risk management
Statistical software: Stata, SPSS, R and eViews.
I take a student-centric approach to tutoring. I ask the student what specific topics or concepts they are finding difficult, and I aim to provide a particular solution as well as a broader understanding of the issue and how it fits into the subject in question. I strive to highlight links between topics or concepts within a theme to maximise student understanding.
I offer face-to-face tuition and online tuition via Skype. During Skype tuition, I share my screen with students so I can draw diagrams and graphs, annotate materials and provide step by step explanations. Any share any notes that I create during tutoring sessions with the student later.

|Tutees Providing Positive Feedback:|
He knew the topics well, always came prepared and doing the necessary research beforehand, and he was available to answer questions/provide feedback outside of regular tutoring hours.
If I needed an hour, he was available to same day a couple hours later.
Overall, a competent and reliable tutor.
