Joe has a PhD in economics, is a published economics researcher and multiple academic award winner. Over five years’ experience offering private tuition to satisfied clients. Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Joe has three years’ experience teaching a first-year economics course at a top 10 UK university, and in 2019 will be lecturing on a labour economics course. He has tutored many satisfied students at prestigious UK and overseas universities.
Joe adeptly draws out the intuition behind complex economic and mathematic concepts and demonstrates theory using examples from personal interests. His easy-going attitude combined with thorough preparation means his clients find his lessons enjoyable and productive.
Joe holds a PhD, MSc (distinction) and a BSc (first class) in Economics. He was the best performing student in both degree cohorts and is the recipient of many academic awards from the University of Lancaster (listed below).

For three years Joe taught Principles of Economics to first-year undergraduates at the University of Lancaster (which regularly ranks among the top ten UK universities). Joe began working as a private economics tutor in early 2013. Since then, he has offered tuition to over fifty satisfied clients; both in person and online. In some cases, Joe has tutored clients in each year of their degree programmes.
Joe’s tutoring experience covers elementary mathematics to advanced economic and econometric theory, as well as applied economics (including dissertation research projects). In addition to economics tuition, Joe can help students get to grips with complicated econometrics and statistical software programmes, such as Stata.
Joe is an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. The HEA promotes reflective and evidence-based teaching practice at universities, and his membership reflects his commitment to excellent teaching practice. Joe has attended multiple teaching workshops including those organised by the Economics Network - a body which promotes good teaching practices in economics education.

Joe adopts a student-centric approach to tutoring. He takes time to understand what specific topics or concepts students are finding difficult, and he aim to provide a solution as well as a broader understanding of the issue and how it fits into the subject in question. Joe strive to highlight links between topics or concepts within a theme to maximise student understanding.
Joe offers face-to-face tuition and online tuition via Skype or Zoom. During Skype tuition, Joe and students can share their screens, so that he can draw diagrams and graphs, annotate materials and provide step by step explanations. All online lessons can be recorded if the student wishes which they can then play back later.
