I currently live in Hull and childmind from our home. I live with my husband, two sons (age 6 and 2) and daughter (9 months). I have a degree in Geography and International Development Studies and PGCE in advanced Early Years. I enjoy travelling, concerts, visiting exhibitions and reading and volunteer for Hull City of Culture which has allowed me to learn even more this year and develop new interests in various areas of the arts.
I have taught in several primary schools in Hull and the East Riding from Foundation Stage Level to Key Stage 2. I have taught in larger schools and smaller, rural schools and led after school classes to mixed age groups.
I currently childmind for a diverse age range, delivering the Early Years curriculum whilst providing tailored, skills based learning opportunities for older children which inspires and engages them.
I home educate my own son and work with the home ed community in Hull to offer varied learning opportunities that are tailored to the individual learner.
My approach is very child led in the sense that I encourage the child to take ownership of their own learning, and work with them to identify their own targets, strengths and needs. This makes the learning purposeful and builds confidence and self-esteem. No matter the age we look at conventional and unconventional methods of learning concepts depending on the child's starting point, preferred learning style and interests- not all children find it easy to learn reems of text! Some children are visual learners, others kinaesthetic and need to physically have things to "move" through a problem. My approach is essentially to start with the child and their interests.
