Personal Description:

While I am a Science Teacher of four years' experience, I have enjoyed a broad and varied education across Science, Literature, Mathematics and the Arts, and continue to pursue varied interests that stem from these areas. I have a keen interest and am actively involved in outdoor pursuits, such as cycling, running, hiking, climbing and camping. I am a practising artist, and bear Diplomas in Fine Art and Textiles, which helped me to develop an observant, patient and resourceful nature. I read often, across many genres/fields: I enjoy gaining perspectives on history, and this often inspires and influences the delivery of my lessons. I am aware of the importance of keeping lesson content relevant and contemporary, and hence read popular science literature, such as New Scientist, on a regular basis, and keep informed with friends and acquaintances in Scientific research and technological development roles.

I have travelled widely (Europe, Asia, Oceania, USA), and place high value on learning from experiencing other cultures. I am an enthusiast for Greater Manchester’s museums and galleries, and have enjoyed exploring the MOSI, and Rochdale, City and Whitworth Art Galleries.

Tutoring Experience:

In my most recent role as Head of Science I have been privileged to work towards providing the utmost in specialised education and care for students with EBSD (Emotional, Behavioural and Social Difficulties), which has been both challenging and exceptionally rewarding. Prior to this, I completed my NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) year as a Teacher of Science: Physics, at Harris Academy, Bromley. I obtained QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) through my PGCE, completed via the University of Sussex. This was inclusive of placements at Warwick School, Redhill, and Hazelwick School, Crawley. During my time at the University of Leeds, I gained experience through the Ogden Trust at Derby High School, Bury, and Student Associates at the Batley Girls' High School, Batley.

During this time I have honed skills in the planning and delivery of lessons and employment of an extensive number of learning methods to suit a wide range of ages and abilities across a broad and varied curriculum. I am committed to protecting the welfare of my students and others, and place high value on frequent contact/dialogue with parents/carers regarding progress.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to foster a motivated, innovative environment for learning, and believe that enjoying learning leads to advanced creative pursuits and sets a learner up for success. I listen carefully and am sensitive to the changing needs of learners during any session, and respond by tailoring topics and activities appropriately. Through bespoke, individualised tutoring, learners' confidence will be improved, while they are encouraged to think critically and express themselves. I make use of a relevant and varied set of resources, including problems and games to test knowledge/check learning, and communicate with learners regarding their progress. I recognise the importance of relating concepts covered during tutorial to 'real world' issues, in order to make content relevant and important to individual learners. I am competent in formulating lessons and learning strategies to meet outcomes in line with any specification across a range of exam boards, and planning long-term to deliver a course of lessons to meet these requirements. I have motivated and keen approach to delivery, and am committed to helping students to realise their potential, raise their expectations and achieve their goals.
