This is how 3 referees rated Joanna:
I am currently studying English at Cambridge University after achieving 4A*s at A-Level and a 99% average UMS score at AS-level. At GCSE I received 9A*s including English Literature, and one A grade. My A2 English Language exam paper is now an exemplar used by AQA and I won Loreto Grammar School's Leslie Smilie Award for English Literature.
My recent experience studying for these qualifications (I am now going into my second year at Cambridge) means that I know first-hand the challenges facing exam candidates and how to overcome them in a productive and fruitful way. There are times throughout everyone's school careers when we doubt our abilities or find ourselves struggling, but careful, informed practice and working towards goals step-by-step means that everyone can reach their full potential.
In my spare time I am a student journalist, write fiction and love to read. I enjoy working with young people (myself being one!) to engage with their ideas and help build up their confidence. Whether a student is looking for help with school work or exam preparation, I am more than happy to work with them towards realising their full potential.
After completing sixth-form at Loreto Grammar School, Altrincham I spent two weeks in Kolkata, India tutoring primary school children (year 6 equivalent) in a range of subjects which included Maths and English. In preparation for this, I volunteered at Loreto Preparatory School, working with smaller groups of girls within the classroom. Whilst at Cambridge I try to get involved in access wherever I can to encourage bright students to apply to Oxbridge.
My approach to tutoring will be moulded by the individual tutee's needs, but will always involve effective guidance, realistic steps towards academic improvement and encouraging strong and confident input from the tutee.
If the student is seeking tutoring specifically for attainment in exams, exam technique and practice will be built into the course as well as guidance on how to reach for the next level or grade. If the student would prefer to focus on content from class or would like some more general guidance, then this can also be provided.
I cater for all levels and abilities from year 7 to 13.
PLEASE NOTE: I am available to tutor during periods home from university only, i.e.
