I am an experienced teacher with 5 years' full-time experience teaching in Year 2 and 3. I am currently looking for work as a supply teacher and wish to take some additional tutoring work.
I am highly experienced - I have a PGCE and QTS, having specialised in primary teaching. My specialism is Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 1-4). I have worked as a class teacher for 3 years in Year 2 and 2 years in Year 3, in a diverse London primary school.
These experiences have illustrated to me the huge range of learning styles and needs that different children have, and have enabled me to effectively differentiate my teaching to make it suitable for children of all attainment levels, those with English as an Additional Language, and those with Special Educational Needs.
I strongly believe that all children can benefit from targetted one-to-one teaching. I noticed that some children did not learn as effectively as others during whole-class lessons, but that these children learnt at a substantially accelerated rate when in small-group and one-to-one settings.
My teaching and tutoring technique is based upon assessing the child's initial level of attainment in a subject and working to extend and challenge their learning to the best of their abilities.
I teach and tutor in a way that is fun and interactive. I provide lots of visual and hands-on support wherever appropriate, and I find that this benefits the majority of learners. For example, Maths can be much more easily understood by some learners if they have the chance to, for example, equally split a group of physical objects when learning about division. I also see great potential in ICT technologies, and use these to maximise learners' engagment and motivation.
From an educational psychology perspective, I am very much of the Vygotskian/Brunerian school of thought - I acknowledge the huge learning potential that can be fulfilled through social interaction, and see myself very much as a tool to support children's learning through challenging questioning and supportive guidance.
