This is how 2 referees rated Jim:
I am a friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable individual and have recently left teaching to study a PhD at the University of Liverpool. I am a father of four children. I greatly enjoy problem solving, hence my love for Science and Maths. This led me to study BSc (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics at the Nottingham Trent University, from which I graduated with a 2:1. I then went to the University of Gloucestershire for my teaching practice and to earn my PGCE.
In my spare time, I enjoy going on days out to explore the local area with my family. I have a wide range of tastes in sports in which I take part, including badminton, board diving, triathlon and swimming. I often watch movies and play video games in the evening. I also have a vast collection of board games, which I enjoy playing with my wife, children and friends.
I taught Science and Physics in secondary school for five years after graduating university and loved being in the classroom with students who wanted to do well. I was a very popular and successful teacher, consistently meeting targets for students in my classes reaching or exceeding their target grades in exams. When the occasional student struggled to keep up with the demands of the course, I was happy to give them additional one-to-one support. This proved to be very successful in filling the gaps in their understanding, leading to them soon achieving their desired grade. I have also tutored a number of students outside of school in Physics, Science, and Maths with great success.
I will begin by studying your most recent assessments in detail to determine where your particular problems lie. This could be a specific topic that gives you trouble, a skill that you have not yet developed or simply a need for more general practice with individual feedback. We will then do some exercises together that focus on your needs, with my explanations and model answers for your guidance. As we do exercises together, any gaps in your fundamental understanding will become clear, so we can dedicate time to filling that gap.
If you are a GCSE or A Level student, the questions and mark schemes that we use will be of the same style as those used by your exam board, so you know that what you are being taught is correct and relevant to the exams you will sit.
