Private Online Maths and Physics Tutor

COVID-19 Update: Stop Virus but Keep Learning!

The impact of the outbreak is making it impossible to maintain in-person lessons but I remain committed to supporting you and your home study through these challenging times.

I have adapted my approach for online tutoring and already performed many online sessions, which turned out to be very effective. These online sessions are performed via virtual meeting platform which provides several useful functionalities, such as whiteboard (handwriting input available) and screen-share (annotation possible). All you need is a computer or a tablet with internet connection.

A Highly Competent Maths and Physics Tutor - Enthusiastic, Patient, and Encouraging

I have always loved maths and sciences from a very young age. I performed exceptionally well at A-levels and achieved grade A for four subjects (Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry). In addition, I won a number of UK national competition awards during my A-level studies (please see the list of awards below). These exceptional achievements earned me a place and scholarship to study Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. Later I switched to a career-oriented Actuarial Science course and gained a first-class degree. I am now a nearly qualified actuary and part of my job is to create complex mathematical models to price insurance contracts. Outside work I exercise a lot which keeps my mind sharp.

I wish to share my knowledge, experience, and passion for learning with you. It would be my great pleasure to help you progress, succeed, and reach full potential. It was not long ago when I was a student myself so I can anticipate problems from young learners’ perspective. Furthermore, my combined academic and commercial experience makes teaching interesting and engaging.

I offer one-to-one tuition in:
• Mathematics
• Physics
• Entrance Exams (for primary and high schools)

I do not take on a lot of students so that I can dedicate myself to a few. At the moment I still have capacity for 2021. Please enquire to discuss further.

Tutoring Experience

While studying at university, I volunteered as an academic peer mentor. I delivered weekly sessions to a group of ten first-year students to support their learning in two modules. I facilitated discussions around key topics and focused on applying knowledge to solve exam-style questions. I received a lot of very positive feedback from my mentees – they said that they enjoyed their learning experience with me and they were very grateful for all my support.

I have helped many students with Maths and Physics. A typical session consists of:
• recapping on previous session and correcting homework
• reviewing new topics and discussing any difficult concepts
• practicing challenging questions and explaining in detail
• allocating homework to consolidate crucial points

I once provided A-level Maths tutorials to a student starting from Year 12 until Year 13. Initially this student lacked confidence in his academic abilities and a borderline grade B/C was predicted by his school. I built a good rapport with the student and inspired him by showing my own enthusiasm for maths. I helped him consolidate his understanding of individual topics along the way. To prepare for his exams, I tailored intense revision sessions focusing on his weak areas. Before each tutorial, I asked the student to complete a mock paper and marked it myself with detailed comments. During each tutorial, we went through the paper together and discussed where he got wrong in the first place. On the results day, I was very pleased when the student told me that he achieved a solid grade A!

These experiences have taught me about key aspects of tutoring such as patience and effective communication. More importantly, they have helped me understand how differently individuals learn and what I could do to help others learn more effectively.

Tutoring Approach

I understand everyone is unique and my tutoring is tailored to your individual needs.

I offer the first session for FREE, during which I would like to know: your aims and objectives / your current strengths and weaknesses / areas you wish to improve on. I will then discuss with you (and your parents) and agree on a teaching plan that works best for us. To track progress I will follow up with regular feedback and point out any areas of concern.

In preparation for every tutorial, I would review the subject contents thoroughly, determine the learning objectives, draft a timeline, and prepare study materials for you. I focus both on improving results and engaging you in learning. Whenever possible, I try to explain abstract mathematical notions in an easy to understand way with real-world insights from my commercial experience.

I am very flexible in teaching and learning. I will always encourage you and make you feel comfortable to ask any questions. If you would like to improve your understanding of some topics recently taught at school, I will go over them with you again. If you feel comfortable with what has been taught at school so far, I can introduce new topics to prepare you for future school lessons or even for national competitions if you are ambitious! Moreover, I can help you improve exam results in many ways, from initial revision planning to final past paper practice.
