Witney Tutor

I graduated from the University of Exeter with a first class honours degree in Philosophy and Politics, and a Dean's Commendation. I then went on to study postgraduate Law. I have been offered places on MSc/MPhil programmes at Reading, Warwick, the LSE and Oxford and have previously worked assisting with academic research at UCL’s Political Science department. As such, I realise the importance of academic success and the doors it can open.

However, I also appreciate that exams can sometimes make students (and parents!) feel like they are “jumping through hoops” to get to the next step. Education can and should be enjoyable and enriching but it is my belief that the onus for this need not be on students. This is where I come in!

When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy reading, horse riding, music (I hold a Distinction at Grade 8 Flute, Trinity Guildhall), and spending time with my partner and family.

Tutoring Experience

• Have experience mentoring ambitious University students, particularly those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds
• English tuition abroad to classrooms of school children (ages 5-15)
• Experienced private tutor – all essay writing subjects, with good results. In particular, I have helped a number of A-level students studying for their Government and Politics exams. Having said this, I enjoy teaching younger students.

Tutoring Approach

I am a keen believer that educational success is down to two things: exam technique and a love of learning. Both of which can be taught!

I have no single approach to tutoring and take each student on a case-by-case basis depending on ability, goals, and learning style.

My main area of academic interest is Political Theory which—as a multi-disciplinary subject—means I am able to teach any combination of Philosophy, Politics, English, History, Critical Thinking or essay writing from primary school up to degree level. I am able to assist with coursework and/or essay preparation and everything in between.
